This 1939 Plymouth P8 Deluxe touring sedan is finished in white over tan cloth upholstery and is powered by a 201ci inline-six paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Features include chrome bumpers, a bustle-back trunk, a split rear window, rear-hinged rear doors, running boards, dual spotlights, a metal windshield visor, turn signals, and a heater. An oil change was performed in 2022. This P8 Deluxe was purchased by the current owner in 2016, and it is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with literature and a clean New Jersey title in the owner’s name.
The Briggs-built body has reportedly been refinished in white and features chrome bumpers and overriders as well as a bustle-back trunk, a split rear window, rear-hinged rear doors, running boards, dual spotlights, a metal windshield visor, turn signals, and a hood ornament. Areas of paint loss, bubbling, and rust can be seen in the gallery.
The burgundy-painted 16″ steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and trim rings, and they are mounted with Lester bias-ply whitewall tires. The P8 rode on a 114″ wheelbase and features a coil-sprung independent front suspension and a live rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel hydraulic drums.
The cabin features front and rear bench seats trimmed in tan cloth upholstery under burgundy covers. A matching tan headliner, door panels, and carpets are fitted, and equipment includes a painted woodgrain steel dashboard and window trim as well as a heater and rear grab handles. There is a tear in the headliner, and additional wear on interior surfaces can be seen in the gallery.
The three-spoke steering wheel is fitted with a brodie knob and fronts a 100-mph speedometer as well as gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, amperage, and water temperature. An auxiliary water temperature gauge is mounted to the right of the steering column. The five-digit odometer shows 56k miles, approximately 3,200 of which were added by the current owner. Total mileage is unknown.
The 201ci inline-six features a single-barrel carburetor and factory rated at 82 horsepower. An oil change was performed in 2022.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. There is corrosion on the underside components.
